Apple Stock Falls Only Slightly After Jobs Boss Resignation

NEW You are able to - Shares of tech giant Apple were lower only slightly at the begining of Thursday buying and selling, following late Wednesday's news that Jobs resigned as Boss. By 9:45am ET, Apple's stock was buying and selling at $369.79, lower 1.7 percent, under another the 6 percent drop in Wednesday after-hrs, which in fact had signaled a loss of revenue around $18 billion in market price. The first morning buying and selling gave Apple an industry capital around $348.8 billion, based on Bloomberg. Experts had stated Wednesday evening that does not much should change at Apple overnight with Jobs' decision to pay attention to the chairman role. Daniel Ernst, analyst at Hudson Square Research, told The Hollywood Reporter he still suggests traders buy Apple's stock among the decline. "The Apple story isn't in regards to a given day or perhaps a whole quarter," he stated. "Apple is really a long-term story of product innovation, share gains and operating execution. When the stock is lower, its an chance to purchase.Inch Wedbush Investments analyst Scott Sutherland echoed that view. Apple continued to be the U.S. company using the second-greatest market price after in recent days being overtaken again by oil giant Exxon Mobile. Jobs' resignation has place the spotlight on new Boss Tim Prepare who's referred to as calm, awesome, but additionally secretive and from time to time brutal. Apple CEO Steve Jobs Resignation Puts Spotlight on Normally Secretive Tim Cook

By all accounts, Tim Cook is an intensely private person. He's been getting away with it as Apple's No. 2 executive, but now that he has been named CEO of one of the world's most valuable and inventive companies, it's likely he'll be thrust into the spotlight routinely whether he likes it or not. our editor recommends Apple CEO Steve Jobs to Take Another Medical Leave of AbsenceApple Most Valuable U.S. Company on Stock Market as Thursday Trading StartsApple Tops Exxon Mobil as Most Valuable U.S. Company Amid Volatile Stock Market Apple Reports Record Quarterly Profit of $7.31 billionApple's OS X Lion Roars Into Mac App Store Cook was named Apple's top executive Wednesday after co-founder Steve Jobs stepped down because, as he put it, "I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO." Jobs didn't mention his health, but he has been dealing with problems associated with pancreatic cancer for at least seven years. Three times he has taken a leave of absence, and three times Cook has filled in for him, so the former COO is no stranger to the top job. Still, he's not the visionary that Jobs is, and Apple investors and its legions of enthusiasts aren't inclined to treat him as if he were. STORY: Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO Hence, whenever there are rumors that Jobs is ill again, Apple loses billions in value. When news broke Wednesday that Jobs was handing the reins over to Cook, the stock sunk 6 percent in after-hours trading, temporarily knocking about $18 billion off of Apple's market cap. Perhaps it's an overreaction, because not much is supposed to change under Cook. Upgrades to iPods, iPads, iTunes, AppleTV and other multimedia wizardry that are in the works will continue as if nothing has happened, experts say, especially since Jobs on Wednesday assumed the role of board chairman, so his opinions are likely to matter just as much as they always have. "Jobs's departure will have no impact on the business," Hudson Square Research analyst Daniel Ernst said. "It doesn't change much from the past year, even the past three years when Steve Jobs first got sick and other people stepped up," added Wedbush Securities analyst Scott Sutherland. Even Steve Wozniak, who founded Apple with Jobs in 1976, expects that the impact of Jobs will be seen for many years whether he is CEO or not. "The quality of the people doesn't change overnight, neither does the quality of the products," Wozniak told Bloomberg TV on Wednesday. And Cook, 50, is a quality executive, as far as Jobs is concerned, which is why he is so well compensated. Last year he made $59 million, mostly through stock grants. STORY: Analyst: Steve Jobs' CEO Departure Will Have 'No Impact' on Apple Jobs recruited Cook from Compaq in 1998 to oversee the manufacturing of Mac computers as senior vp for worldwide operations. He first served as temporary CEO in 2004 when Jobs was recovering from pancreatic cancer surgery, and he was named COO three years later. A lengthy profile of Cook in Fortune magazine in 2008 (which Cook declined to participate in) called him a "workaholic" who typically began his e-mail sessions at 4:30 a.m. and could be brutal in meetings, where he'd ask executives questions he knew they couldn't answer before grilling them with equally impossible follow-up queries. His hobbies are cycling, hiking and exercising. He serves on the board of Nike, and Out magazine recently put him at the top of its LGBT Power 50 list, ahead of Ellen DeGeneres, Anderson Cooper and Rachel Maddow. "While it is Jobs's prescience that has kept the Cupertino, Calif., company at the cutting edge of technology, it's Cook who made sure Apple could deliver as demand rocketed," Out said in its Power 50 profile. An Alabama native, Cook earned a B.S. in industrial engineering from Auburn University -- he's a rabid Auburn Tigers football fan -- and an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. STORY: Steve Jobs Resignation: Business, News Cable Networks Set Evening Coverage His office, according to the Fortune profile, is decorated with Auburn paraphernalia and photos of Bobby Kennedy and Bob Dylan. In recent years, Cook has taken to running Apple's conference calls to discuss its quarterly earnings because Jobs rarely makes an appearance, so analysts are very familiar with the new CEO. "Tim is more behind-the-scenes, more quiet," says Sutherland, while "Steve has sometimes downright antagonized competitors." "Cool, calm, and never, ever raises his voice," is how Fortune put it, and whose "stamina is stuff of legend at Apple." Plus, "He's essentially been running much of the company for years." 10 Things to Know About 'Whitney'

NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt introduced stand-up comic-turned-TV starWhitney Cummings at Monday's TCA presentation as "this year's 'it' girl."It's a nod to her role as both an both executive producer/star of NBC comedy "Whitney" and an executive producer on CBS comedy "Two Broke Girls," a balancing act that she calls "surreal."During a stop at the semi-annual press tour, Cummings, along with her cast and crew, opened up about the NBC comedy and its inspirations. Here are the 10 things that you need to know before the show's Sept. 22 premiere.1. Whitney Cummings wrote the pilot with co-star Chris D'Elia in mind. The pair had come up together as stand up comics in Los Angeles, with Cummings joking that "he's the most talented young comedian working, besides me." 2. Don't expect to see Whitney and D'Elia's Alex character get hitched anytime soon. "Getting married would pop the balloon," explains showrunner Betsy Thomas, noting that the show is all about the characters trying to figure out if marriage is necessary. 3. "It's an incredible time to be a woman in comedy. It feels like its more of an advantage than a disadvantage," gushes Cummings of an era in which the big and small screen is dominated by funny women including Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph and Christina Applegate.4. Cummings credits actor-comedian Paul Reiser as the inspiration for her stand up career. It was his book, "Couplehood," that she says allowed her to see "the cracks in the sidewalk." Likening stand up comics to journalists, Cummings says the gig is all about observing and critiquing, a skill that her producers add has been particularly helpful as she writes this show.5. If you let Cummings and her producers tell it, the character's committed but non-married relationship is a common and contemporary one. "This relationship is a modern relationship.. its balanced... that's the relationship that reflects the way we live our lives," notes Thomas.6. There are pieces of Whitney in "Whitney." Among them: "Her personality is a ball of energy and sometimes she can take things to the extreme. We've used that to inspire some of the things that she does," Thomas says, adding that her stand up background and observations have been similarly helpful in the writers room.7. Mutli-cam comedies may not be en vogue, but its the format of choice for stand-up comedians Cummings and D'Elia. "Alive audience... keeps you honest and i think it makes us all better," adds Thomas. 8. Cummings will continue to do stand up gigs. "I write on stage and [it's] where I get my ideas... it's what we live for," she says, acknowledging that the grueling 80-plus tour date schedule that she did last year is no longer feasible.9. Cummings admits that she bought a pair of Carrie Bradshaw-style Christian Louboutins for her meeting with"Sex and the City's" Michael Patrick Kingto discuss -- and ultimately agree to collaborate on -- CBS'"Two Broke Girls." She jokes that she had planned to return the shoes the following day, but couldn't when she realized she had sweat through them.10. Cummings is getting comfortable with a balancing act. She spends her days at theWhitneyset, and her evenings at home pouring over"TwoBroke Girls"notes. "It's surreal," she says, of a career and lifestyle that she never "thought was in the cards.""Whitney" will premiere on NBC Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9:30 pm. The Hollywood Reporter
